Ceramics Hand-Building Workshop In-Person

Learn to create small ceramic vessels through a series of four free to attend workshops aimed towards high schoolers and adults interested in studying art at a post-high school level, or simply want to learn something new. No prior experience is necessary. Supplies are provided by the instructor, but it is encouraged to bring a pencil and sketchbook for ideation. Participants should dress in clothes meant for getting dirty, wear closed toe shoes, and have the option to bring an apron to put on while working with clay.

This project was made possible through the Creativity Works program at the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), which is supported by the Fenn Educational Fund and the G.R. Lincoln Family Foundation. Ignis Manieri, a Madison High School class of ‘22 alum and 3rd year CIA Craft + Design student, would also like to thank class of ‘24 CIA Ceramics alum Ben Mataloni for his assistance during each workshop.

On March 15th, we will be sculpting pinch-pot vessels with clay.
On March 22nd, we will discuss ways to add extra clay details to the vessels and finish making them.

On March 29th, we will be painting the vessels with ceramic underglazes.

On April 5th, we will end this series together with an informal critique discussing the finished vessels and our experiences making them.
